on one knee. One of the most important considerations you have to take into account is your body type and what type of wedding dress style will best suit your shape.
If you’re a curvy girl, an A-line dress will show off your best assets. An hour-glass figure looks great in something nipped in at the waist. If you fall more on the heavier side, avoid dresses with spaghetti straps (they tend to exaggerate plumpness) and strapless varieties (you don’t want any wardrobe malfunctions on your wedding day).

If you want to show off your top half, consider the classic ball gown silhouette. Dresses like this have a full skirt and a fitted bodice. Empire-waist dresses cover up anything south of your boobs, so they’re also a good option.

If you’re looking to enhance your lower half, consider a sheath dress or mermaid or tulip skirt. A sheath is great for petite women too, since it’s form-fitting all over. Mermaid skirts flare below the knee, whereas trumpet skirts flare at the mid-thigh. Both of these styles tend to hug your rear end and can make a great silhouette.

Don’t be afraid to try on a few dresses that offer arm coverage, especially if you’re not thrilled with how your biceps look – or if you’re getting married somewhere chilly. Lacy or sheer sleeves cover you up without looking too elderly, besides lace is really in right now. Cap sleeves are a great way to make sure a strapless gown won’t threaten to fall off. You can also have your bridal boutique add arms to a dress that you like.

Remember buy the dress you absolutely love and feel comfortable in. It’s your wedding day. Don’t buy a dress that’s too small for you either, be realistic and feel good in it. You don’t want to have to starve yourself to fit into a dress that’s 2 sizes small for you.
